About us

Who we are

Genogen Development Initiative (GEDI) is women-led organization that works with children, girls and women to create awareness on gender and rights as well as promote their wellbeing and livelihoods in the community. It is found in Nebbi District of West Nile Sub- region, Northern Uganda, East Africa.

The organization started as an informal group in 2015 championed by Roseline Nyakwo who

skills to empower girls and young women in the community through an apprenticeship
programme in sewing, knitting and designing of garments. In 2021 the organization went
through a comprehensive review process to become a legal entity operating in Uganda.

Genogen Development Initiative (GEDI) is fully incorporated with Uganda Registration Services
Bureau (URSB) and registered with the National Bureau for Non-Governmental Organisations
(NGO Bureau) as an Indigenous Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) with Registration
Number 8172 and Operational Permit Number 09902, as of 3 rd May 2024.

Our approach

Our Vision
“Empowered women and girls with a voice and sustainable livelihoods”.
Our entire team wants to see a world where every youngster struggling in any way feels able to reach out and has people who’ll help them with education, jobs, and more. We want to spread out in every region so we’ll be reachable to all.
Our Mission
“To promote a stable, fairer and prosperous community”.
Whether it is a reassuring conversation, financial help, education, professional training, or simply the assurance that they are not alone, we will make sure that everyone gets support that meets them where they’re at as quickly as possible.

Organisational Values

1. Honesty and accountability in conducting our work
2. Option of the poor and marginalized in the community
3. Respect for people and diversity, both outside and within the organisation
